Answers to common questions about Zirrus fiber internet, Wi-Fi, tech support, and getting started.
Availability depends on your specific address. The best way to confirm service, speed options, and pricing is to check your address here or call 336-463-5055.
Our residential speed plans range from 250 Mbps up to 6Gig (6,000 Mbps), with 1Gig being our most popular plan. Our speeds are always symmetrical, meaning you get the same upload speed as download speed. We have higher speeds available for businesses and custom residential plans. You can speak with a business rep by calling 336-463-5022 to learn more.
A typical fiber install would cost approximately $1,200. However, Zirrus provides professional, white glove installation for free.
You can visit our homepage or our service pages to see what promotions & deals we currently have available.
Zirrus is 100% locally owned and operated with a commitment to community and customer service. Our expansion is largely based on community input, where 50% or more of the neighborhood has expressed interest. If you have checked your address and fiber is not available, but you would still like Zirrus Fiber Internet in your neighborhood, you can become a neighborhood ambassador.
Every provider’s pricing is different and because there is so much variation between performance when it comes to type of internet, value is probably a better comparison. Some providers advertise free internet or very low pricing, but it’s on their worst performance plan or the price increases dramatically after a year. We recommend you compare price taking into account varying factors and what is important to you (speed, reliability, customer service, etc.).
Is Zirrus Fiber available at your address?
Check your address to see the speeds, plans, and pricing available to your home.
Yes, fiber is faster and more reliable than cable internet, with better performance during high traffic times and upload speeds that can match download speed. Fiber can be especially helpful for households with multiple users, video calls, cloud backups, gaming, and smart home devices. For a full download, you can read more in this article.
No. Fiber is actually the most energy efficient internet access technology.
Rain and water do not directly impact fiber. Severe weather may indirectly impact your fiber internet like any other form of internet, if there are power outages or damage to outdoor equipment. We bury our fiber cables and build network redundancies to mitigate the chances of that happening.
The ideal internet speed depends on many factors including if you stream, game, do any kind of video calling, how many people and internet connected devices are in your household, and the times of the day you primarily use the internet. We recommend this article on speed to help you determine your needs, as well as checking our plan information.
Yes, you should notice that your internet experience on the whole is faster and more reliable.
The fastest speed we generally offer is 6Gig, but we can go up to 10Gig if needed, for businesses and custom residential.
This will depend on many factors including the streaming quality and the number of household internet users and connected devices. Fiber at any speed will result in better stability for streaming, but we recommend 500 Mbps to 1 Gig for the average household to ensure the best streaming experience.
When you compare internet providers, we recommend looking at the type of connectivity, performance, and customer service. You can read more here, but fiber is the fastest, most reliable type of internet. Zirrus is 100% true fiber to the home with symmetrical speeds and our customer service is unmatched, with a 4.9/5 rating on Google to prove that.
Fiber to the Home is the most reliable high speed internet because it is a direct, dedicated connection. Be aware of confusing buzzwords used in some providers’ marketing—“Fiber-Powered”, “Fiber-Backed”, “Fiber-Fast”, and “Fiber-Rich” are all fancy marketing terms that actually mean it’s NOT true Fiber to the Home.
Fiber is the fastest internet service, providing symmetrical upload and download gigabit speeds.
No. 5G is a type of internet connection that relies on nearby cell towers. Speed will be limited and stability will fluctuate based on network traffic, distance, and obstacles. Fiber is the fastest, most reliable type of internet connection.
No. Fiber does not have the same congestion issues as other types of internet like cable or 5G, so there is no need to cap data or throttle someone’s usage.
Fiber to the Home (also called 100% Fiber or True Fiber) is the fastest, most reliable internet technology and can offer symmetrical speeds. Other types of internet may be able to offer downloads speeds as fast as 1 Gig (1000 Mbps), though that largely depends on time of day and congestion, but their upload speeds are only ~40 Mbps.
It can, but fiber is generally better protected against outages than other types of internet. Additionally, Zirrus has designed our infrastructure specifically to mitigate outages as much as possible, with redundancies in our network. We are up 99.9% of the time.
Fiber internet sends light signals through fiber optic cables to transmit data. These light pulses travel faster and more efficiently than electrical signals in traditional cable or DSL, resulting in a high-speed connection that is faster and more reliable.
We have redundancies built into our infrastructure so that if our power goes out, it won’t impact your internet service. Fiber does not require electricity, but your home equipment, including your router, does need power to access internet. So, if your power goes out and you do not have a backup power source, you will not have internet access. Permanent power must be installed at a home before we can complete internet installation.
Fiber and ethernet have different functions. Fiber supplies the internet connection and, if a device cannot be wirelessly connected, ethernet can be used to physically connect fiber to that device.
Yes. Zirrus offers Smart Wi-Fi with professional mesh installation and Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 7 optimization designed to improve whole-home coverage, reduce dead zones, and support streaming and gaming throughout the home.
Smart Wi-Fi is Zirrus’ managed Wi-Fi solution designed to improve your in-home wireless experience. It uses professional installation, mesh coverage, and Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 7 technology to help deliver stronger coverage across more rooms.
You may need mesh Wi-Fi if your home has dead zones, multiple floors, thick walls, a large square footage, or many connected devices. Homes over roughly 2,000 square feet often benefit from mesh Wi-Fi. Our trained technicians will evaluate during installation to ensure you have the whole home Wi-Fi coverage you need.
Yes, we provide professional in-home consultation, Wi-Fi network installation, and Smart Wi-Fi setup to help optimize coverage and performance.
The best router is one that is either Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 7 enabled. We recommend our own Smart Wi-Fi managed solution, which comes with a router that is designed to deliver stronger coverage and remote troubleshooting.
They are not the same but they do work together. Fiber is the internet connection to the home and Wi-fi is the wireless signal that shares the internet connection throughout your home and devices.

Fiber internet is installed using specialized machinery to bury the cables underground. We use directional boring to run the cables underneath driveways and service lines to ensure there is no damage or disturbance. As part of our stitch boring process, we are always careful to replace any turf and soil that was disturbed during installation. Our techniques are so clean and precise that any markings will disappear in just a couple of weeks.
No. We do have to bury the fiber cables, but we use minimally invasive techniques and hold our construction & installation crews to a high standard. Your lawn will have some short-term signs of installation but should return to normal after a few weeks.
No, you generally don’t have to do any rewiring for our fiber internet. We take care of the full installation, laying fiber lines to your home and installing a small box called an ONT (Optical Network Terminal). None of the wiring in your home will need to be adjusted unless you have specific custom needs.
