Important Notice Regarding 911 and Emergency Calling
This Emergency Calling Notice applies when you dial 911 using Zirrus voice services, including but not limited to hosted PBX services, VoIP desk phones, softphones, mobile applications, web-based calling, and other IP-enabled voice services provided by Zirrus, Inc. ("Zirrus").
Internet-based voice services have important limitations compared to traditional wireline 911 services. This notice explains those limitations and your responsibilities as a customer or user of Zirrus services.
If you are not comfortable with these limitations, you should maintain an alternate means of calling 911, such as a mobile phone or traditional landline.
If you are an account administrator, you are responsible for ensuring that all users of the Zirrus services understand this notice.
Zirrus provides Enhanced 911 ("E911") service for supported voice services only within the United States (excluding U.S. territories) and Canada, where available.
When you dial 911 using a Zirrus-supported voice service, Zirrus will attempt to route your call through one or more third-party emergency service providers to the Public Safety Answering Point ("PSAP") that corresponds to the emergency response address associated with the device, line, or extension.
Because Zirrus provides IP-based voice services, your 911 call may not be routed to the nearest PSAP and may instead be transferred to a specialized emergency call handling center, which will then route the call to the appropriate local emergency responders.
Zirrus will attempt to provide the emergency dispatcher with the caller name, call-back number, and emergency response address on record. However, Zirrus does not control whether the dispatcher is capable of receiving or displaying that information.
Unlike traditional wireline 911 service, your exact physical location is not automatically available to emergency responders.
WHEN CALLING 911, YOU MUST IMMEDIATELY STATE YOUR LOCATION AND CALL-BACK NUMBER TO THE DISPATCHER.
For E911 to function properly, Zirrus must have an accurate physical street address for each device, line, or extension capable of placing a 911 call.
Unless otherwise configured, Zirrus assigns the address on file as the default emergency response address for all devices and extensions under an account.
You are responsible for ensuring that emergency response address information is accurate and up to date, including when:
Address updates may be made through your Zirrus account administrator, customer portal, or by contacting Zirrus Customer Care.
There may be a delay between when an address change is submitted and when it becomes active for emergency routing. During this period, 911 calls may be routed using the previous address.
You must also ensure that all users are instructed to notify you before moving any device capable of placing a 911 call.
You understand and acknowledge that Zirrus emergency calling may not function in certain situations, including but not limited to:
The emergency dispatcher may not receive your call-back number or accurate address, especially if the call is disconnected. You must be prepared to provide this information verbally.
Zirrus voice services do not support text-to-911, SMS, MMS, or other messaging services to 911.
Zirrus voice services require electrical power and an active internet connection to function. Without backup power (such as a battery backup or generator), you will not be able to place calls, including 911 calls, during a power outage.
By purchasing, activating, or using Zirrus voice services, you:
Your acceptance becomes effective upon execution of a service agreement, service order, or electronic acceptance referencing this notice.
