Zirrus Emergency Calling (911) Notice

Important Notice Regarding 911 and Emergency Calling

This Emergency Calling Notice applies when you dial 911 using Zirrus voice services, including but not limited to hosted PBX services, VoIP desk phones, softphones, mobile applications, web-based calling, and other IP-enabled voice services provided by Zirrus, Inc. ("Zirrus").

Internet-based voice services have important limitations compared to traditional wireline 911 services. This notice explains those limitations and your responsibilities as a customer or user of Zirrus services.

If you are not comfortable with these limitations, you should maintain an alternate means of calling 911, such as a mobile phone or traditional landline.

If you are an account administrator, you are responsible for ensuring that all users of the Zirrus services understand this notice.

How Zirrus 911 Calling Works

Zirrus provides Enhanced 911 ("E911") service for supported voice services only within the United States (excluding U.S. territories) and Canada, where available.

When you dial 911 using a Zirrus-supported voice service, Zirrus will attempt to route your call through one or more third-party emergency service providers to the Public Safety Answering Point ("PSAP") that corresponds to the emergency response address associated with the device, line, or extension.

Because Zirrus provides IP-based voice services, your 911 call may not be routed to the nearest PSAP and may instead be transferred to a specialized emergency call handling center, which will then route the call to the appropriate local emergency responders.

Zirrus will attempt to provide the emergency dispatcher with the caller name, call-back number, and emergency response address on record. However, Zirrus does not control whether the dispatcher is capable of receiving or displaying that information.

Unlike traditional wireline 911 service, your exact physical location is not automatically available to emergency responders.

WHEN CALLING 911, YOU MUST IMMEDIATELY STATE YOUR LOCATION AND CALL-BACK NUMBER TO THE DISPATCHER.

Emergency Response Address Requirements

For E911 to function properly, Zirrus must have an accurate physical street address for each device, line, or extension capable of placing a 911 call.

  • The emergency response address must be a valid physical location.
  • P.O. boxes and mail drops are not permitted.
  • If an incorrect address is provided — or no address is provided — emergency responders may be dispatched to the wrong location or delayed, or the call may not be completed.

Unless otherwise configured, Zirrus assigns the address on file as the default emergency response address for all devices and extensions under an account.

Address Changes and Customer Responsibilities

You are responsible for ensuring that emergency response address information is accurate and up to date, including when:

  • A phone or device is moved to a new physical location
  • An extension is reassigned to a different user or site
  • A softphone or mobile application is used from a different address
  • Any situation occurs where emergency responders would need to be dispatched to a different location

Address updates may be made through your Zirrus account administrator, customer portal, or by contacting Zirrus Customer Care.

There may be a delay between when an address change is submitted and when it becomes active for emergency routing. During this period, 911 calls may be routed using the previous address.

You must also ensure that all users are instructed to notify you before moving any device capable of placing a 911 call.

Service Limitations

You understand and acknowledge that Zirrus emergency calling may not function in certain situations, including but not limited to:

  • Power outages (unless backup power is available)
  • Internet outages, bandwidth congestion, or service disruptions
  • Improperly configured, damaged, or unsupported equipment
  • Suspension or termination of Zirrus services
  • Use of services outside supported geographic areas

The emergency dispatcher may not receive your call-back number or accurate address, especially if the call is disconnected. You must be prepared to provide this information verbally.

Zirrus voice services do not support text-to-911, SMS, MMS, or other messaging services to 911.

Backup Power and Connectivity

Zirrus voice services require electrical power and an active internet connection to function. Without backup power (such as a battery backup or generator), you will not be able to place calls, including 911 calls, during a power outage.

Authorizations and Acknowledgment

By purchasing, activating, or using Zirrus voice services, you:

  • Authorize Zirrus and its emergency service providers to disclose your name, number, and address to emergency service providers and responders
  • Acknowledge that you have read and understand this Emergency Calling Notice
  • Accept the limitations of IP-based 911 services
  • Agree to maintain alternative means of contacting emergency services if needed
  • Represent that you have authority to accept this notice on behalf of yourself or your organization

Your acceptance becomes effective upon execution of a service agreement, service order, or electronic acceptance referencing this notice.
